Marimekko, the Finnish textile maker that wowed the world with its bright fabrics, opens it’s flagship today in NoMad. As previously mentioned, the store is on Fifth Avenue and is part of the Helsinki-based company’s quick U.S. expansion.

“It’s a good time to bring fresh colors, fresh identity to the market in these difficult times,” Chief Executive Officer Mika Ihamuotila said in an interview yesterday at the store, where the fabric’s bright hues contrast with the white, minimalist space. “And maybe in these turbulent times, it’s exactly what people are after.”

Just this past July, Marimekko introduced an e-commerce site, selling home decor, textiles and accessories. Marimekko has also been a Crate and Barrel supplier since 1966, and  is now beginning to open boutiques at the home-goods chain and aims to have 23 by the end of 2013. This year, the fabric maker also teamed up with Converse, releasing a limited edition collection of sneakers designed with Marimekko patters.

The new store will act as a showcase for new products in particular, embracing all collections. The NYC store is based on the same concept as the flagship opened in Helsinki earlier this year. Both stores were designed by the Japanese architectural firm IMA in cooperation with Marimekko’s own shop design team. Check out our pics of the Marimekko shop below.
